National Lottery Community Fund: Towards Equity

In 2020 James Lee, Project Manager at the City Bridge Trust carried out a piece of research for the fund exploring how funders can be more accessible for disabled-led organisations.

The aim of the report was to explore how The National Lottery Community Fund can better support Disabled People’s Organisations, and explored the following themes:

1) As funders, we often talk about ‘meeting people where they are’ and ‘understanding & enabling the authentic voice’ of the people we work with. This is my authentic voice.

2) When using the words ‘disability’ and ‘disabled people’, we should constantly remind ourselves that these are just convenient ways of describing a collective group identity – and that they do not fully reflect the intersectional nature of individuals.
